Napoleon Hill said that” Happiness is found in doing not merely possessing.” After the experiences I ‘ve had these past couple of months I fully agree with Mr. Hill because the things I have done as a State Officer have made me extremely happy.  We have traveled to some pretty neat places and met some even more amazing people who genuinely care for FFA and that agriculture industry.

I was extremely excited to host our first conference as State Officers. Not only was it our first conference but also the first time we would be around FFA members as a team since we were elected. I could not wait to meet all the regional officers at our first event the Regional Officer Leadership Conference. Our team was really excited to kick off the conference and meet all of the newly elected officers.  While at the conference we introduced our community service project for the year-“The can hunger million can challenge.” This is a project I’m really excited about because it gives all of us to make a difference in our own communities in a very simple way- A CAN FOOD DRIVE! Over all we had a great time in Bass Lake and we are really excited about their year of service.

After being away from home for almost a month it was nice to be able to go home and see our families. I was so excited to see my friends and family which I had missed a lot. It is said that “the farther the distance, the closer in heart.” I have come to find how true this statement truly is because that is how I felt since I moved away. I have been so far from my family friends and loved ones but they have been in heart every single day. It’s amazing how much more you learn to appreciate those people once they are no longer a part of your everyday life. My home break was great but I could not wait to get back to the center and begin our trips to the different SOLC’s and SOLS’s.

It has been great attending the different SOLC’s and SOLS’s and meeting all of the fun excited members of our Association. Our first SOLS was in the Superior Region where we ate homemade ice cream while bonding with the regional and sectional officers. Our next SOLS was in the Southern Region where once again I met members excited about our organization like a sophomore by the name of Daniel. It is members like that who truly get me excited about my year and why I absolutely love the FFA and my role this year. From Southern Region our next SOLC was in the warm San Joaquin Region where I was once again reminded how great the members of the FFA organization was through members such as Sierra. Our most recent stop was in the South Coast Region where we got in touch with our inner child through their Dr. Seuss theme. That conference was once again filled with so many members eager to serve their sections. It has been wonderful traveling to the different conferences and meeting the different FFA members. Each of them may be different but one thing brings them together and that is their love and passion for our organization and that is really exciting!

As State Officers we have the opportunity to visit all of the major Agriculture Colleges in the state. All of those trainings have been great and I feel so fortunate because we have met a large numbers of professors that truly love teaching. I was so happy and excited about my year as a State leader after meeting with all of them because I knew that they were contacts I would have for life. California has so many great professors such as Dr. Dodson, Dr. Flores, Professor Lassanske, Dr.  Warner, Dr Vaughn  and Dr. De Lay. All of these individuals helped us prepare in a number of different things but mainly chapter visits. After the training we’ve had with them we are prepared to go out on the road and meet with all of you and trust me when I say that we are REALLY excited.

We are now about to start chapter visits and really get into the classroom and meet with different types of members. I look forward to visiting all of the schools I have been assigned to and meeting different members.

How time just flies! It seems as if just yesterday we were elected and now here were are California State FFA Officers ready and excited to serve the members of our Association.

Serving as State Secretary is a huge honor and I am extremely thankful towards the Soledad FFA my home and foundation of my growth as an individual and a leader, my advisors Mrs. Ramirez, Ms. Minton and Mrs. Margreiter who supported me and guided me in their own distinct way, the members of the Soledad FFA who helped me and supported me through the election process and the California FFA members who believed in me and elected me as your State Secretary. I am extremely excited to begin this year and have the opportunity to meet and build relationships with the members of the California FFA. I can’t wait for chapter visits, COLC’s, SOLS’s, MFE’s and ALA’s where I will have the opportunity to meet you; the members of the California FFA.

Since we moved in we have been busy training, working and enjoying the company of one another.

BLAST OFF- Building leaders and strong teams of officers was such a great conference! Our BLAST OFF trainer was absolutely great and we truly learned a lot about ourselves, our year of service and about leadership. Just when you think you’ve learned it all you go to another leadership training and realize you haven’t and there much more where that came from.  A couple things we learned and did during Blast off:

1.       Our strengths

2.       Developed Mission Statements for our year

3.       The extremely important Sound Bytes

4.       The meaning of performing consistently and consistently improving.

5.       Philosophy of leadership- “Leadership is an ability we can develop and everyone can be a good leader as long as your heart is in the right place. “

CATA Conference- This was our first travel as a team and it was quite the car ride. Having two clowns on the team made our famous road trips in the Ag van that much more enjoyable. A couple CATA highlights:

1.       We met with Mr. Ashwanden and Deans of Ag Colleges and got to put our sound bite skills we learned at Blast off into use.

2.       Motivational Speech by Cal  Poly’s Dr. Sable

3.       Planning ROLC while relaxing by the beach

National Ag in the Classroom Conference- It was at this conference that we got to work together as a team for the first time as we traveled to Costa Mesa for the National Ag in the Classroom breakfast and give a Patriotic Observance for teachers from every state in the United States. We were fortunate to sit in a room filled with extremely nice teachers and Farm Bureau employees who support agriculture education. After the conference we made our way back to Galt to finish preparing for ROLC before our first home visit since we moved to Galt!

I’m excited to begin this year and hope to have the opportunity to meet you at this year’s FFA events!o
