RECAP: State FFA Leadership Conference Opening Session

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Future Farmers of America (FFA) members and supporters from across the state of California discovered their infinite potential during the opening session of the 96th State FFA Leadership Conference at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

The 2023-2024 State Officer team kicked off the conference with a video showcasing their theme for the year, “Infinite.” The team emphasized how experiences in agricultural education can lead to infinite opportunities in and outside of the blue jacket.

Opportunities Abound at the 2024 Career Expo

More than 75 exhibitors representing various sectors of the agriculture industry greeted attendees at the Sacramento Convention Center for the 2024 Career Expo. At this year's Career Expo, there’s something for everyone: booths featuring industry partners, in- and out-of-state colleges and universities, agriscience fair, livestock fitting demonstrations, and the FFA Store. The goal of the Career Expo is to provide opportunities for conference participants to meet and converse with industry and educational leaders.

Supporting Farmers: FFA Alumni Lend a Hand

As former FFA members navigate life beyond high school, many discover a profound calling to support farmers in their journey. Inspired by their agricultural roots and mentored by impactful figures, these alumni find purpose in assisting those who work the land and feed us everyday. Learn more as we explore the stories of former FFA members who have chosen to make a difference in the lives of farmers, embodying the enduring spirit of FFA in their post-college pursuits.

 

California Community Colleges: Three Reasons Why They’re Great for Ag Majors

As a former community college student and current instructor, I’m a big fan of California Community Colleges (CCC). My journey started at Butte College (Butte), then Fresno State, then Farm Credit, and now back at Butte serving as an agriculture business instructor. The CCC system is robust and inclusive, proudly holding the title of the largest higher education system in the United States.

State Officer Update: We are Thankful for… California FFA!

In November, our State Officer Team had the wonderful opportunity to attend several events, beginning with the 96th Annual National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our responsibilities during the convention included being part of the national delegate process. The 2023-2024 state officers, 2022-2023 state officers, and members chosen through an application process served as the assigned delegates to represent California.

Beginning in the early 20th century in California, agricultural education has a long tradition of preparing students for rigorous, satisfying careers both within and outside of the industry. As a school-based learning program, agricultural education operates as a unit within the California Department of Education and is written into the state’s legislative education code.
